ROLE PURPOSE -

You will provide pedagogical leadership to ensure quality care and education programs for children, and direction, support and continuous learning for staff as part of the Educational Leader role. You will provide vibrant, interesting, varied and appropriate children’s programs that is developed and implemented to meet the ongoing needs of the children as per the approved Learning Frameworks.

Your role is to ensure that the philosophy, policies and procedures of the Service are upheld, implemented and reviewed regularly to meet relevant requirements. Your role is to maintain compliance with the regulations as prescribed by the Education and Care Regulatory Unit along with all legal and statutory requirements.

You will encourage staff, families and communities of the service to actively reflect on and assess the service’s practices using Self-Assessment and contribute to the quality and success of the service using Quality Improvement Plan. You will work to achieve and maintain a continuously clean and safe environment through compliance with prescribed hygiene and safety practices within the service.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES -

  • Be the Responsible person of the service and act in the best interest of the children, families, staff and the communities

  • Be the Educational Leader of the service and provide support, guidance and direction in regards to the curriculum planning, routines, practices and procedures within the rooms and the service

  • Oversee administrative duties or otherwise in relation to but not limit to: DESE reporting, family accounts, fee collection, information sheets, communication

  • Complete reporting requirements as directed by management, for example rosters and other checklists, etc.

  • Regularly contribute to the Self-Assessment and Quality Improvement Plan

  • Organize and be involved in community events

  • In all work activity deliver the Service’s philosophy, policies and procedures as prescribed

  • Provide a safe, clean, appropriate environment for the children in your care

  • Keep abreast of latest research in theory and practice for Early Childhood Education and Care by participating in relevant seminars or in-service trainings and programs

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with families and trusting relationships with children and staff

  • Advocate for children and families and be available as a resource person to families

  • Be sensitive to and respect the diversity of social and cultural backgrounds of children in care and ensure these children and their families feel welcomed

  • Liaise and interact with families and children in a friendly and non-judgemental way

  • Strive for continuous improvement and excellence in customer service

  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and actively work to communicate and build professional relationships with the team

  • Participate in bi-monthly and contribute to regular management meetings

  • Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding families, children and other staff members

  • Ensure the Operations Manager is informed of any problem arising, which would affect the children, families or the smooth running of the service

  • Always adhere to the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations as well as the Service’s Policies, Practices and Philosophy

  • Any other duties, within the scope of the position, as specified by the Operations Manager

  • Fulfil other duties as required by management and other department personnel as requested/required

QUALIFICATIONS -

  • Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and minimum 3 yrs experience in the industry

  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate

  • Approved Anaphylaxis and Emergency Asthma Management training

  • Acceptance from Working with Children Check

  • National Police Clearance

  • Child Protection training

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE -

  • Understanding of the National Quality Framework, Education and Care National Law and Regulations along with the Nationally Approved Early Years Learning Frameworks

  • Computer proficient, including Microsoft Office
